Rock the Debate Festival in Oxford, Mississippi
Monday, September 29th, 2008Prior to the much-awaited presidential debate, the University of Mississippi hosted a “Rock the Debate” festival from noon till 8 p.m. on Friday. Students, Oxford residents, and visitors from around the region poured into Ole Miss’s campus to be a part of the free festival which combined music, food, games, and political excitement.
The Thad for Senate tent was set up in “Issues Alley,” a place in the grove where young voters could stop by and gather information on different campaign issues. View pictures below of the Rock the Debate festival.

Rock the Debate
Thursday, September 25th, 2008The Thad for Senate campaign is going to have a tent setup at the University of Mississippi’s Rock the Debate event this Friday. Please come bye, visit, and enjoy the live music in the grove! We will be handing out T-Shirts, bottled water, fans, bumper stickers, and yard signs. Our tent will be located in the grove across from Faser hall from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m.
Alcorn County Republican Fish Fry
Wednesday, September 24th, 2008Sen. Cochran’s North Mississippi field representative Billy McBeath spoke at the Alcorn County Republican Fish Fry on Monday night. Approximately 100 Alcorn County residents attended the fish fry.
Other Speakers and representatives at the event included First District Congressional candidate Mayor Gregg Davis, Margaret Wicker McPhillips representing Senator Roger Wicker’s campaign, two candidates running for election commissioner, and a local representative for Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign.
Field Rep. Billy McBeath said, “Republicans are really starting to get fired up in the first district. Local Republican meetings are gaining more attention as people tune into national and state-wide races. If there is one McCain/Palin sign left in North Mississippi by mid-October, I will be surprised.”
Rankin County GOP Rally
Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008Several Republican supporters came out for the Rankin County GOP Rally held tonight at the Jackson Marriott. Keynote speakers included Senator Roger Wicker, Congressman Chip Pickering, Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant, 3rd Congressional District Candidate for Congress Gregg Harper, and Mississippi GOP Chairman Brad White.
Several campaign tables were set up, along with a Thad for Senate table, in order to encourage event attendees to spread enthusiasm and get out the vote for the upcoming election on November 4th. View pictures below from the event.

B.B. King Museum Grand Opening
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008Last Saturday, Senator Cochran attended the Grand Opening ceremony of the new B.B. King Museum & Delta Interpretive Center. The event began at 10:00 a.m. in Indianola, MS. Senator Cochran spoke at the event along with several others including Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, Board of Directors President Bill McPherson, Board of Director member Carver Randle, and Museum Executive Director Connie Gibbons. The Senator was asked to read a letter written by President George W. Bush and another letter written by former President Bill Clinton.
The museum was built in order to honor the life of B.B. King, and its mission was to “power, unite, and heal through music education.” The event was held outside of the new museum, and many Delta residents attended to show their support and to witness the ribbon-cutting. It was an event that honored B.B. King, but also an event to celebrate the culture of the Delta. The grand opening truly displayed the Delta’s inspiration, passion, and commitment to music. Senator Cochran attends Delta State v. Arkansas-Monticello game
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008Senator Cochran attended the Delta State University v. Arkansas-Monticello football game at 6 p.m. on Saturday after the “Pig Pickin” festivities. Cochran, along with state Senator Bob Dearing from Natchez, was introduced on the field after the first quarter of the football game. Click here to view more pictures of the event.

Senator Cochran attends Delta State University’s “Pig Pickin” weekend
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008Senator Cochran hosted a cooking team for the “Pig Pickin” weekend at Delta State University on Saturday, September 13, located in Statesmen Park. Cochran’s cooking team, also known as “Mighty Fine Swine,” was led by Lee Havens of Cleveland. The public was invited to come by the tent after the DSU Pep Rally at 3:30 p.m. to visit with Senator Cochran, to eat good food, and to take away “Thad gear.” Click here to view more several pictures from the event.

Rose Flenorl introduces Sen. Cochran at Bridging the Gap event
Thursday, August 28th, 2008Rose Flenorl, FedEx Manager of Social Responsibility and Ethnic Outreach, introduced Senator Thad Cochran at the Bridging the Gap event in Columbus, MS. The event brought residents and leaders from across the Golden Triangle area together to speak with Sen. Thad Cochran, Sen. Roger Wicker, and Gov. Haley Barbour on important state and national issues.
Rose is a recipient of the Memphis Women Magazine’s “50 Women Who Make A Difference Award,” the National Society of Fund Raising Executives’ Crystal Award for Philanthropy, the Black Business Association Benny Award for Outstanding Community Involvement, the Urban League J.A. McDaniel Award, and the Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South Character Award. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Rose was the first black female named to the student Hall of Fame and was chosen by Glamour Magazine as one of the top 10 college women in the United States.
