    B.B. King Museum Grand Opening

    Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

Last Saturday, Senator Cochran attended the Grand Opening ceremony of the new B.B. King Museum & Delta Interpretive Center.  The event began at 10:00 a.m. in Indianola, MS.  Senator Cochran spoke at the event along with several others including Lt. Governor Phil Bryant, U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, Board of Directors President Bill McPherson, Board of Director member Carver Randle, and Museum Executive Director Connie Gibbons. The Senator was asked to read a letter written by President George W. Bush and another letter written by former President Bill Clinton.

The museum was built in order to honor the life of B.B. King, and its mission was to “power, unite, and heal through music education.”  The event was held outside of the new museum, and many Delta residents attended to show their support and to witness the ribbon-cutting.  It was an event that honored B.B. King, but also an event to celebrate the culture of the Delta.  The grand opening truly displayed the Delta’s inspiration, passion, and commitment to music.  Click here to view more pictures of the event.
