    Pearl River County Republican Rally

    On Saturday, August 16, South Mississippi Field Representative Michael Janus attended the Pearl River County Republican Party Rally. The featured speakers at the event were John McKay, Republican candidate for Congress in District 4, Senator Roger Wicker, Cory Adair, the official liaison to the Mississippi McCain campaign, Pearl River County Sheriff David Allison, State Representative Mark Formby, and State Representative Michael Janus representing Senator Thad Cochran. The Pearl River County Republican group gathered for a fish fry in hopes of rallying residents in the area to come out and show support for the Republican candidates for this year’s election.

    Fourth of July on the Gulf Coast

    While Senator Cochran and staff members spread across different cities in northern Mississippi attending 4th of July events, South Mississippi Field Rep. Michael Janus represented Cochran on the coast.  Janus attended Bay St. Louis’s 24th Annual Crab Festival at Our Lady Gulf Catholic Church and Mississippi’s Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in Biloxi for the weekend. Both are traditional holiday events held on the Gulf Coast that include carnival rides, arts and crafts, food, family fun, and much more.  Pictures from the events are below:

Mason.  Senator Cochran made remarks at the event along with Michael Janus, State Representative and South Mississippi Field Rep. for Cochran.   Janus played a significant role in authoring a bill this year dedicating a stretch of Highway 90 in honor of Dr. Gilbert Mason.

    Cochran to speak at MDOT dedication in honor of Dr. Gilbert Mason

    Senator Cochran plans to speak at the MDOT dedication ceremony honoring Dr. Gilbert R. Mason on Saturday.  A portion of U.S. Highway 90 will be dedicated to Dr. Mason, a noted civil rights leader on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Dr. Gilbert Mason was a dedicated physician who worked tirelessly to promote equality and to provide quality healthcare to all Mississippians no matter racial or ethnic background. 

    Michael Janus, State Representative and South Mississippi Field Rep. for Cochran, will also speak at the ceremony.  Janus played a significant role in helping pass legislation to designate the portion of Highway 90 to honor Dr. Mason.  Read House Bill 207 below.

    Dr. Gilbert R. Mason, Sr.

    In the 2008 session of the Mississippi Legislature, House Bill 207 was passed designating a portion of U.S. Highway 90 as “Dr. Gilbert R. Mason Sr. Memorial Highway.”

    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

    SECTION 1. (1) That portion of U.S. Highway 90 in the city of Biloxi beginning at Rodenberg Avenue and extending easterly to Porter Avenue, is designated and shall be known as the “Dr. Gilbert R. Mason, Sr., Memorial Highway.”
    (2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment of highway described in subsection (1) of this section.

    SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

    South Mississippi Rep. attends Beauvoir reopening in Biloxi

    Thad Cochran’s South Mississippi Field Representative Michael Janus attended the Beauvoir reopening on Tuesday, June 3.   Beauvoir, Jefferson Davis’s home, is a historic landmark which was severely damaged after Hurricane Katrina.  Over a thousand people attended the event to celebrate the restoration and reopening of the building which also landed on Jefferson Davis’s 200th birthday.  For more information of the event, click here to read an article in the Sunherald.  View below pictures taken by Pat Morris of the event.
